The Waterway 805-0224 is a replacement union/tailpiece O-ring used to seal many Waterway 1-1/2" union-style connections. What This O-Ring Does
- Seals the union faces to prevent water leaks under pressure.
- Helps prevent air intrusion on suction-side unions that can cause bubbles, noise, or priming issues.

When to Replace
- Dripping or weeping at a union connection
- Flattened, cracked, swollen, or nicked rubber
- Union must be overtightened to stop a leak
- Union was opened for service and the old seal no longer reseals reliably
Installation Notes
- Turn the pump off and relieve system pressure before opening the union.
- Remove the old O-ring and clean the groove and mating faces (remove grit, scale, and residue).
- Seat the new O-ring evenly—do not twist it.
- Lightly lubricate with pool-safe silicone lubricant (avoid petroleum-based products).
- Hand-tighten the union nut snugly; overtightening can distort the seal and cause leaks.
- Restart the system and recheck for seepage once the system is running.
Maintenance Tip
If a union still seeps after replacing the O-ring, inspect the union nut and tailpiece for hairline cracks and confirm the plumbing is not putting stress on the union faces. Misalignment can prevent a new seal from seating correctly.
