Taylor R-0013-E – Cyanuric Acid (CYA) Test Reagent

The Taylor R-0013-E reagent is used to test cyanuric acid (stabilizer) levels in pool and spa water — a key step in ensuring proper chlorine effectiveness and water chemistry balance.

Key Features

  • Formulated specifically for measuring cyanuric acid (pool stabilizer) in water.
  • Turbidimetric test: when added to water sample, it causes a reaction producing a fine precipitate proportional to CYA concentration — result is read against a comparator or scale.
  • Designed for use with standard drop-test kits or complete water test kits that include CYA measurement.
  • Provided in a convenient reagent bottle (size varies by suffix letter) for easy dosing.

Typical Applications

  • Routine testing of cyanuric acid (stabilizer) in outdoor pools — necessary when using chlorine that degrades under sunlight.
  • After heavy rain, water top-offs, or dilution events to confirm stabilizer levels are within safe range.
  • Part of a full water-chemistry check alongside chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and hardness tests.

How to Use

  1. Collect a water sample at the correct depth (per manufacturer instructions).
  2. Add the prescribed number of drops of R-0013, then follow with any required mixing or buffer steps as directed by your test kit instructions.
  3. Observe the sample for precipitate formation and read the result using the comparator or scale provided in the test kit.
  4. Interpret the reading to find the cyanuric acid concentration (in ppm).
  5. Use results to adjust stabilizer treatment as needed to maintain ideal CYA levels (usually 30–50 ppm for most chlorine pools, per pool-care best practices).

Storage & Handling Tips

  • Keep bottle tightly closed to prevent evaporation or contamination.
  • Store at stable room temperature, away from direct sunlight and pool chemicals.
  • Replace reagent before each swimming season or if the reagent bottle has passed its “best by” date to ensure accurate results.
