Glacier IceBlock GPC-25 Evaporative Swimming Pool Cooler – Up to 20,000 Gallons

The Glacier GPC-25 IceBlock Swimming Pool Cooler is an energy-efficient evaporative cooling system designed to lower uncomfortable swimming pool water temperatures during hot summer weather. Engineered for residential swimming pools up to 20,000 gallons, the GPC-25 uses natural evaporation and forced airflow to remove heat from circulating pool water.

Unlike conventional refrigeration-based pool chillers, the Glacier IceBlock GPC-25 does not require a compressor, refrigerant, or gas connection. Its electric fan and integrated water circulation system provide an efficient way to cool swimming pools in warm climates.

Whether you're dealing with excessive pool water temperatures in Arizona, Texas, Nevada, Florida, or other hot regions, the Glacier GPC-25 helps make swimming more comfortable during the summer months.

How the Glacier GPC-25 Pool Cooler Works

The Glacier GPC-25 uses the natural process of evaporation to remove heat from swimming pool water.

During operation, water from the swimming pool is diverted through the cooler. A distribution assembly spreads the incoming water across specially designed cooling media inside the unit.

An electric fan draws air through the cooling media. As a portion of the water evaporates, heat is transferred away from the remaining water.

The cooled water collects in the internal basin, where the integrated pump returns it to the swimming pool.

This process continually removes heat from circulating water while the system is operating under suitable environmental conditions.

Benefits of Evaporative Pool Cooling

  • Helps lower uncomfortable swimming pool temperatures.
  • Improves swimming comfort during hot summer months.
  • Uses less electrical power than many compressor-based pool chillers.
  • Does not require refrigerant or gas.
  • Can operate alongside compatible existing pool filtration systems.
  • Provides a practical solution for swimming pools exposed to intense summer heat.
  • Can be incorporated into compatible automated pool equipment systems.

Pool Cooling Performance

The Glacier IceBlock GPC-25 is designed to cool residential swimming pools containing up to 20,000 gallons.

Actual cooling performance depends on several factors, including:

  • Outdoor air temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Swimming pool water volume
  • Pool surface area
  • Sun exposure and shade
  • Pool finish and surface color
  • Circulation flow rate
  • Cooler operating hours
  • Pool equipment configuration

Performance Note: Evaporative cooling is most effective when environmental conditions allow sufficient evaporation. Actual temperature reduction varies by climate and installation. A specific temperature reduction cannot be guaranteed.

Ideal for Hot-Weather Swimming Pools

Swimming pools in hot climates can become uncomfortably warm during prolonged summer heat.

The Glacier GPC-25 provides supplemental cooling that helps counteract heat gained from direct sunlight, high outdoor temperatures, and warm pool surfaces.

This makes the GPC-25 particularly useful for residential pools in warm-weather regions where conventional swimming pool heating is unnecessary during much of the summer.

Glacier GPC-25 vs. Traditional Pool Chillers

The Glacier GPC-25 uses evaporative cooling rather than mechanical refrigeration.

  • Glacier GPC-25: Uses an electric fan, cooling media, and circulating water to remove heat through evaporation.
  • Refrigerated Pool Chiller: Uses a compressor and refrigerant-based heat transfer system to remove heat from pool water.

Because the Glacier cooler does not operate as a refrigeration system, it generally requires less electrical power than a comparable compressor-based chiller. However, its cooling performance is influenced by humidity and ambient weather conditions.

Compatible Pool Applications

  • Residential inground swimming pools
  • Swimming pools up to 20,000 gallons
  • Concrete and gunite swimming pools
  • Fiberglass swimming pools
  • Vinyl-liner swimming pools
  • Compatible saltwater swimming pools
  • Swimming pools with compatible automation systems

Sizing Recommendation: Pools near the upper end of the 20,000-gallon capacity may require additional cooling capacity depending on climate, sun exposure, pool finish, and desired temperature reduction. Consult Glacier's sizing recommendations before selecting a cooler.

Installation Requirements

The Glacier GPC-25 is designed for connection to a compatible swimming pool circulation system.

Installation generally requires:

  • A suitable equipment pad with approximately 2 ft. x 2 ft. of space.
  • Compatible 1-1/2-inch inlet and outlet plumbing connections.
  • A properly sized electrical supply and circuit protection.
  • Appropriate plumbing valves and bypass connections.
  • Adequate airflow and manufacturer-specified equipment clearances.
  • Proper connection to the existing swimming pool circulation system.

Install the unit in accordance with Glacier's current installation manual and applicable electrical and plumbing codes.

Pool Automation Compatibility

The Glacier GPC-25 can be integrated into compatible pool automation systems to provide additional control over cooler operation.

Depending on the automation configuration, the cooler may operate using scheduled circulation periods or compatible temperature-based controls.

Important: The standard residential Glacier GPC-25 does not include an integrated thermostat. Temperature-based automation requires compatible external equipment and controls.

Maintenance and Operation

Routine inspection and cleaning help maintain effective airflow and cooling performance.

  • Inspect the cooling media for debris and mineral buildup.
  • Keep airflow openings clear of obstructions.
  • Inspect the internal water distribution assembly.
  • Check the basin and return pump for accumulated debris.
  • Verify that the water distribution system operates correctly.
  • Inspect plumbing connections for leaks.
  • Follow Glacier's recommended cleaning and winterization procedures.

Maintain balanced swimming pool water chemistry to help protect the cooler and associated plumbing equipment.
