Hayward Goldline GLC-2P-A Solar Pool Heating Control System (GL-235 Controller + 3-Way Valve, Actuator & Sensors)

The Hayward GLC-2P-A is an automatic solar pool heating control system package built around the Hayward/Goldline GL-235 differential temperature controller. It automatically turns solar heating on and off by driving a 24V valve actuator when your roof/collector temperature is warmer than the pool water, helping maximize free solar heat while preventing unwanted heat loss.

What’s Included

  • GL-235 solar controller (microprocessor-based)
  • 3-way diverter valve (commonly 2" / 2-1/2" valve body configuration)
  • 24V valve actuator for automatic diverting to/from the solar collectors
  • (2) 10K temperature sensors (typically water sensor + solar/collector sensor)

Key Functions & Features

  • Differential temperature control to automatically collect solar heat only when it’s available
  • Selectable high limit to prevent overheating beyond your set point
  • Nocturnal cooling (selectable) to help cool the pool at night during hot weather (when conditions allow)
  • Freeze protection (recirculation mode) to help protect plumbing/collectors in cold conditions (system dependent)
  • Status LEDs for quick system indication and troubleshooting

Typical Applications

  • In-ground pool solar heating systems using roof/ground-mount collectors
  • Systems that control solar flow with a motorized 3-way valve
  • New installs or upgrades replacing an older/failed solar controller package

Installation Notes

  • Mount the collector sensor where it reads true panel temperature (not shaded or directly influenced by roof vents).
  • Install the water sensor in a representative location per controller instructions for accurate temperature control.
  • Confirm valve orientation and actuator cam settings so “Solar ON” and “Solar OFF” positions are correct.
  • Electrical wiring and bonding/grounding should follow local code and manufacturer instructions.

Maintenance Tips

  • At the start of each season, confirm the actuator fully turns the valve to the correct positions (Solar ON/OFF) without binding.
  • If solar heating seems inconsistent, check sensor placement and wiring first—bad sensor readings are a common cause of poor control.
  • Inspect roof/collector plumbing for air leaks or vacuum breaks that can reduce flow and heating efficiency.
  • Keep filters clean—solar systems depend on adequate flow to transfer heat properly.
  • If you use nocturnal cooling, verify it’s enabled only when desired; it can lower pool temperature intentionally at night.
