Hayward VLX4007K Strainer Housing Kit – For VL40 Series Sand Filters

Part # VLX4007K — a replacement strainer housing kit designed for use with Hayward VL40T32 sand filters and compatible VL-series pool pump/filter setups.

Why It’s Needed

This kit replaces the original strainer housing assembly when it becomes cracked, warped, or otherwise damaged. A compromised housing can lead to leaks, loss of prime, reduced pump efficiency, or unsafe filtration operation. Installing a new VLX4007K housing restores the integrity of the pump’s suction chamber and ensures proper flow and sealing.

Typical Applications

Used for above-ground or VL-series sand filter systems — especially when the existing housing shows leaks, damage from impact or wear, or after extended filter service when the housing needs replacement. Also essential when rebuilding or refurbishing older sand filter setups to restore reliable performance.

Installation & Compatibility Notes

Before servicing, turn off pump power and fully relieve all system pressure. Drain water, remove old housing and components, and clean mating surfaces. Install new strainer housing, seat the O-ring correctly, install the drain plug and pump nut securely. Reassemble the system, refill and prime, then verify there are no leaks and that the filter/pump operates with proper flow and suction.

Maintenance & Inspection Tips

Inspect the strainer housing periodically for cracks or stress lines — especially after winterization or heavy filter workloads.
Ensure O-ring and drain plug remain in good condition and are properly seated each service cycle.
Replace drainage plug O-ring or drain plug if leaking or showing signs of wear before re-amping the system.
Keep a spare kit on hand for quick replacement to minimize downtime in case of housing failure.

Return Policy:

Products that are received damaged will receive a refund in store credit.
Most products are eligible for return within 30 days of receipt, except where noted below.
To initiate a return, please complete an RMA form prior to sending your item back.
Original shipping costs are non-refundable and will be deducted from the return credit.
Items returned missing accessories or original packaging, or that are not in the same condition as received, may be subject to a restocking fee of up to 100% depending on the condition of the item upon return.
Some returns will be charged an automatic 15% restocking fee.
We are unable to issue refunds for items that have been damaged or rendered inoperable due to installer error.

If a light is returned due to a reported malfunction and is found to be fully operational upon testing, return shipping costs and a restocking fee will be deducted from the refund.
Orders refused at the time of delivery will be subject to the original shipping costs being deducted from the refund.
