Hayward SP1078 Equalizer Valve Assembly for SP1070 & SP1080 Series Skimmers

The Hayward SP1078 is an OEM equalizer valve assembly used in select Hayward in-ground pool skimmers. It installs at the skimmer equalizer port and helps maintain reliable suction by automatically shifting flow between the skimmer and the equalizer line when water level changes.

  • Fits Hayward SP1080 Auto-Skim series skimmers
  • Commonly used in conjunction with the SP1082FV float valve assembly on compatible skimmers

What It Does

  • Helps prevent pump airlock by maintaining suction when skimmer water level gets low
  • Diverts suction to the equalizer line as needed to protect circulation
  • Supports more consistent skimmer operation during heavy skimming, vacuuming, or changing water levels

Common Signs You Need a Replacement

  • Pump losing prime or pulling air when the water level drops near the skimmer opening
  • Weak or inconsistent suction at the skimmer
  • Cracked, warped, or missing equalizer valve parts during skimmer service

Installation Notes

  • Turn off the pump at the breaker before servicing the skimmer.
  • Install the equalizer valve in the skimmer’s equalizer port area per your skimmer’s parts layout.
  • If your system uses a float valve assembly, inspect the float and O-ring/seals at the same time for best results.

Maintenance Tips

  • Keep the pool water level high enough so the skimmer doesn’t vortex air (mid-skimmer opening is a good rule of thumb).
  • Empty the skimmer basket regularly—restricted flow can worsen priming issues.
  • If you vacuum through the skimmer, watch for low water level and clean filters afterward to keep suction steady.
  • During seasonal service, inspect the equalizer/float valve components for cracks, swelling, or sticking and replace worn parts early.

Return Policy:

  • Products that are received damaged will receive a refund in store credit.
  • Most products are eligible for return within 30 days of receipt, except where noted below.
  • To initiate a return, please complete an RMA form prior to sending your item back.
  • Original shipping costs are non-refundable and will be deducted from the return credit.
  • Items returned missing accessories or original packaging, or that are not in the same condition as received, may be subject to a restocking fee of up to 100% depending on the condition of the item upon return.
  • Some returns will be charged an automatic 15% restocking fee.
  • We are unable to issue refunds for items that have been damaged or rendered inoperable due to installer error.
  • Please complete the return form to receive your RMA number and return shipping label.
  • Chemical products are not eligible for return under any circumstances.
  • The Pentair Colorsync 618031 is not eligible for return.
  • Pool cleaners are not eligible for return.
  • Opened seals and o-rings are not eligible for return.
  • Capacitors are not eligible for return.
  • Plastic popup tools are not eligible for return.
  • Automation components and circuit boards are not eligible for return.
  • If a light is returned due to a reported malfunction and is found to be fully operational upon testing, return shipping costs and a restocking fee will be deducted from the refund.
  • Orders refused at the time of delivery will be subject to the original shipping costs being deducted from the refund.
