Hayward CAX-20203 Rotary Flow Sensor (Open Line) — CAT Controllers Flow Monitoring Sensor

The Hayward CAX-20203 is an OEM rotary flow sensor used with Hayward commercial CAT controller systems to confirm adequate recirculating water flow. It helps protect equipment and bathers by allowing the controller to disable chemical feed when flow is insufficient (for example during backwash, a clogged strainer, or other low-flow conditions).

Fits / Compatibility

  • Hayward CAT automated chemical controller systems (commercial automation applications)
  • Commonly referenced for select CAT 1000 and CAT 2000 controller setups (verify by controller model/parts diagram)
  • Pool Type: Commercial

What It Does

  • Monitors circulation flow conditions so the controller can verify safe, stable flow before chemical dosing
  • Helps prevent dosing during low-flow/no-flow events
  • Supports more reliable pH/sanitizer control by ensuring the controller only feeds when conditions are appropriate

Common Reasons to Replace

  • Flow-related alarms or faults traced to a failed sensor (after confirming proper flow and clean plumbing)
  • Intermittent or unstable flow indication
  • Physical damage, corrosion, or cable/connector issues
  • Preventive replacement during controller system service

Specs (Quick Reference)

  • Part Number (SKU): CAX-20203
  • Part Type: Automation / Commercial Parts
  • Channel: Open Line
  • GTIN: 761418012749
  • Approx. Shipping Weight: 0.2 lb
  • Warranty: 1-Year (Parts Only)

Installation Notes

  • Shut off power to the controller and ensure the circulation system is off before servicing.
  • Install in the correct orientation/location specified by your CAT controller plumbing diagram.
  • After installation, verify flow status changes correctly during normal operation and when flow is interrupted.
  • If issues persist, inspect for debris/restriction at the sensor location and confirm controller input wiring is correct.

Maintenance Tips

  • Keep filters clean and baskets clear—restricted flow can cause nuisance flow alarms and interrupted chemical feed.
  • Inspect the sensor area periodically for debris buildup that can affect flow detection.
  • If the controller reports low flow unexpectedly, confirm pump operation and valve positions before replacing parts.
  • Keep controller enclosures dry and protected from moisture to reduce corrosion at sensor connections.
