Vac-Alert VA-2000S Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) – Submerged Suction Applications

The Vac-Alert VA-2000S is a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) designed for submerged suction installations—meaning the circulating pump suction is below the pool water surface. If a suction entrapment condition occurs, the VA-2000S is engineered to release vacuum quickly by introducing air into the suction line, helping reduce the dangerous suction force at the drain or suction outlet.

Key Features

  • For submerged suction systems: intended for installations where the pump is below the water level
  • Passive, non-electrical design: no wiring required
  • No manual reset required after activation (system behavior depends on plumbing/pump conditions)
  • Designed to react rapidly to abnormal vacuum conditions to help reduce entrapment risk
  • Chemical-resistant construction for pool and spa environments

How It Works (Overview)

  • Under normal operation, the device remains sealed within the suction plumbing.
  • During a sudden high-vacuum event (such as entrapment), the unit is designed to open and admit air into the line, helping break the vacuum and reduce suction at the outlet.

Application & Selection Notes

  • VA-2000S: submerged suction (pump below water surface)
  • If your pump is at or above the water level, you typically need the suction-lift version instead (different model).
  • Always verify local code requirements and confirm your plumbing layout supports SVRS installation.

Technical Highlights

  • Model: VA-2000S
  • Type: Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS)
  • Submerged-suction design details: incorporates an orifice opening below the surge tube section and an internal check valve assembly configured to help prevent water migration into the unit under positive hydrostatic head conditions

Installation Notes

  • Install only in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable codes.
  • Placement, orientation, and pipe sizing matter—SVRS performance depends on correct installation.
  • After installation, test system operation per the manufacturer’s procedure before placing the pool/spa back into service.

Maintenance Tips

  • Keep baskets and filters clean—restricted flow can increase vacuum conditions and stress suction plumbing.
  • Inspect suction outlet covers regularly and replace cracked or loose covers immediately.
  • During routine equipment checks, inspect the SVRS installation area for leaks, cracks, or physical damage.
  • If the system experiences unusual suction behavior, shut down circulation and have the equipment evaluated before continued operation.
