Pentair IntelliChem® Liquid Chlorine Tank with Tank-Mounted Peristaltic Pump | 522473

The Pentair 522473 is an OEM liquid chlorine feed tank with a tank-mounted peristaltic pump designed for use with Pentair IntelliChem chemical automation systems (and compatible setups where specified). It provides a convenient, all-in-one container for storing and metering liquid chlorine into the circulation plumbing for consistent, automated sanitation.

Key Features

  • Integrated tank-mounted pump: no separate external chemical pump required for dosing from this container.
  • Liquid chlorine storage: designed for feeding sodium hypochlorite (liquid chlorine/bleach) in automation applications.
  • Approx. 4-gallon capacity: sized for common residential chlorine automation installations.
  • Peristaltic dosing style: pump tube-driven metering helps deliver consistent feed rates and simplifies service (tube is a wear item).
  • Easy plumbing hookup: typically uses 1/4" chemical injection tubing and common plumbing adapters (installation dependent).
  • OEM Pentair replacement: correct fit and wiring for IntelliChem installations that specify part 522473.

Compatibility

  • Fits: Pentair IntelliChem chemical controller systems that specify 522473 for the chlorine container/pump assembly.
  • Common use: liquid chlorine feed tank for automated chlorine dosing (verify by your controller model and parts diagram).
  • Tip: IntelliChem systems can be configured with either tank-mounted pump containers or separate pump/container setups—confirm your existing configuration before ordering.

What’s Included

  • (1) Chlorine tank/container
  • (1) Tank-mounted peristaltic pump assembly (pre-attached)
  • Installation adapters/tubing components as supplied by the manufacturer packaging (contents can vary by kit revision)

Common Reasons to Replace

  • Cracked tank, damaged fittings, or lid seal issues causing leaks or fumes at the container
  • Pump housing damage or stripped mounting points on the original tank/pump assembly
  • Automation is being restored after chemical damage, sun damage, or equipment pad rebuild
  • Persistent dosing issues traced to a failing tank-mounted pump assembly (after confirming tubing and injection point are clear)

Installation Notes

  • Install on a stable, level surface in a well-ventilated area and secure the tank to prevent tipping.
  • Route chemical tubing neatly and protect it from sharp edges, heat sources, and direct sunlight when possible.
  • Use a proper injection check valve at the plumbing injection point to reduce backflow and improve dosing accuracy.
  • Always follow the controller’s setup procedure (priming, calibration/dosing settings, and safety interlocks) after replacement.
  • Chemical automation installation/service is best performed by a qualified pool professional.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • No feed / weak feed: check for air leaks on the suction side, clogged injection point, pinched tubing, or a worn pump tube.
  • Overfeeding: verify controller settings, confirm check valve operation, and inspect tubing for siphoning due to improper routing.
  • Drips at fittings: inspect the lid seal/O-ring and fittings, and confirm tubing is fully seated and not cracked.

Maintenance Tips

  • Inspect and replace the peristaltic pump tube on a routine schedule—tube wear is one of the most common causes of poor dosing.
  • Keep the suction line and injection line free of crystallization or debris; flush lines during seasonal service.
  • Store liquid chlorine in the tank away from heat and direct sun to help reduce degradation and pressure buildup.
  • Check the injection check valve periodically; a sticking valve can cause backflow, leaks, or dosing inconsistency.
  • Always handle pool chemicals with proper PPE and follow chemical manufacturer safety guidance.
